I have started collecting (mostly old) books that have an airedale or a puli as their main character. Collecting books written about pulis is quite hard, as they are mostly only present in hungarian literature, and not often translated into English. There were quite a few books written about airedales though, mostly in the early 1900's USA, where the breed was largely popular at the time. These books are mostly out of print now and rare to find, but with the help of the internet and ebay you might get lucky one day!

3, Author: Capek, Karel Title: I had a Dog and a Cat Publisher: George Allen, London 1940
Description: This Czech author has owned and bred mainly fox terriers, but this book has warm hearted stories of other pets too - including his airedale called Minda. Extract from the book:
"The people who get my goat most are those who say: "You have got a nice greyhound; but why is he so hairy?" She drags me whereever she cares to go: she has terrific strength, and most peculiar interests; she drags me over rubbish heaps and dumps in the suburbs. Good-natured retired gentleman meet us struggling each at the opposite ends of the lead wound several times round our legs. "Why do you pull at the dog so hard?" they enquire censoriously. "Im only just excercising it," I say quickly as I am hauled away to another heap"

4, Author: Evans, Hubert Title: Derry Series Publisher: Dodd Mead, 1928-1930
Description: A series of books by this author, about an airedale named Derry. Titles in the series include: Derry; Derry's Partner; Derry, Airedale of the Frontier; Derry of Totem Creek
"Derry was a finely bred airedale, belonging to Ed Sibley of Twin Forks in the wild open country of the Northwest. As a young dog he was rather inclined to disobedinece and wildness, qualities which disappointed his master, who had hoped to make a companion of him in that rough and often lonely country. Later, however, Derry proved that there was real stuff in him, as he accompanied his master on hunting and trapping parties and, in several instances, played the leading role in a rather tight situations.
Fights with bears, wolves, wild cats, and other animals of the forest lend excitement to the story."

5, Author: Helme, Eleanor and Paul, Nance Title: The Joker and the Jerry Publisher: 1932
Description: "Pat Forrester's luggage lay on the door-step of Diddacombe Rectory. On the top of the luggage, with Pat's cap between his large tawny paws, lay James. James was an Airedale, and looked imposing, even fierce, but in reality he was completely easy going so long as nobody interfered with Pat or Pat's possessions. From time to time he turned a watchful eye towards the wide open window beside him, and whenever he caught the sound of Pat's voice from the room inside, he lifted his nose and gently thumped his stumpy tail."
